That WND would even notice The Discerning Times speaks for the humility of Joseph Farah – I am left speechless.
The editor in chief of an independent news organization that named the Drudge Report and WND among the “most trustworthy news sources” for 2012 has called the two outlets “a powerhouse for thought-provoking news – which is sorely needed in today’s hype-saturated media.”
As WND reported, the Discerning Times at Enumclaw.com, an online source that bills itself as a “Small Town Newspaper, Big Time News,” cited Drudge as the “top-trusted site for millions” and WND for “continual commitment to the truth and top-notch journalistic practice.”
In the list of the top news sources, WND was second only to the Drudge Report.
“I actually considered placing WorldNetDaily at the top of the list and the Drudge Report second,” said Discerning Times Editor T. Williams. “It was a difficult decision. WND produces much more original content, asks questions nobody else is willing to ask, and demands answers. On the other hand, Drudge is able to make points and pose subtle questions by the arrangement of news links so the reader is guided to seek proper answers.
“Both are of equal value and of the highest quality. Taken together, they are a powerhouse for thought-provoking news – which is sorely needed in today’s hype-saturated media.”
The Discerning Times explained that each news source was carefully considered and ranked by the following criteria:
- Reliability: Consistent, regularly updated delivery of news.
- Accuracy: Well-rounded stories which focus upon facts rather than gossip or hearsay.
- Quality: Favors informative, well-written pieces over sheer quantity.
- Balance: Stories are selected and reported aside from bias or agenda.
- Reach: Strong authority and readership across the web.
“Though our little newspaper is nothing compared to The Drudge Report and WorldNetDaily, one does not have to be an art critic to appreciate masterpieces,” Williams wrote.
The Christian organization has also said it based its decision on several factors, including the news reported “results from the fullest research possible” and that news “will be reported without favoritism.”
Other factors include an emphasis on beneficial news, the appropriate use of photographs “with due consideration for personal dignity” and that “no specific political viewpoint will be represented.”
