Flashback: Mitt Romney Warns NRA Against an ‘Unrestrained’ Second-term Obama

· National News (psa 33:12) · 11 Comments

As it turns out, Mitt Romney, during his presidential campaign warned against the “unrestrained” second-term of the Obama administration and the effects it could have on the 2nd Amendment.

“In a second term, he would be unrestrained by the demands of re-election,” Romney told a crowd estimated at 6,000 in the cavernous Edward Jones Dome. “As he told the Russian president last month when he thought no one else was listening, after a re-election he’ll have a lot more, quote, ‘flexibility’ to do what he wants.  I’m not exactly sure what he meant by that, but looking at his first three years, I have a very good idea.”

Referring specifically to the right to bear arms, Romney said: “If we are going to safeguard our 2nd Amendment, it is time to elect a president who will defend the rights President Obama ignores or minimizes. I will.”

Romney’s speech came at the NRA’s Leadership Forum, which always draws top conservative speakers. Also expected to speak Friday were three of Romney’s former rivals for the GOP nomination, former Sen. Rick Santorum, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, as well as a panoply of other Republican stars, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Sens. Chuck Grassley and Roy Blunt, and Rep. Darrell Issa.

Most of the other speakers could claim a friendlier history with the NRA than Romney, who supported strict gun control measures as governor of Massachusetts and once said he didn’t “line up” with the gun rights group. But the NRA leadership has thrown its weight behind Romney, whom it sees as preferable to Obama, and Romney received several standing ovations during his speech.

Although Obama has not been responsible for any notable gun control measures, the organization has been sharply critical of some of his appointments, especially that of Eric Holder as attorney general.

Romney was correct and that is why people in absolute mass need to join the NRA. Their membership needs to double to show D.C. and Obama where we stand on our Freedoms and Rights!

Imagine how different America would be today had Romney been elected. Unemployment would be down, stock market would be over 15,000 by now, and we wouldn’t have a president who will not rest until he has taken every gun law-abiding citizens own. We should allow recall elections in this election!

LOL! Romney warning us about guns! Seriously LOL! He signed an assault weapons ban in Mass years ago and people thought he was pro- 2nd Amendment. LOL!

Brian, there’s a big difference between an “assault weapons ban” and being Pro-2nd Amendment. Do you know what an assault weapon is?

He was right, but the 53% fo those who voted for the socialist/marxist are just like him. We are out numbered. I fear greatly that our country as we have known it is over.

Yes, but we are better armed. :-)

Yep, unemployment is up, workforce numbers are at 1940′s level, record debt, record number of people on welfare, US credit downgrade, armed violent mexican drug dealers because of Obama, dead Americans in Libya.

Only the welfare class are happy about Obama considering only the parasites won and the taxpayers lost.

Your statement is not true. Fewer people voted in 2012 than in 2008. Only half of America’s electorate chose to go to the polls to vote in 2012. Of the number of people who actually voted, just a shade over one half (51%) voted for obama. One half of one half is one quarter, so just over one quarter of the electorate actually voted for obama.

The biggest problem is that one half of America’s electorate didn’t like either candidate and was too apathetic to vote.

      • nookly

The other problem is that polling places were over taken by Obama’s brown shirts and the machines were rigged to select Obama no matter who was selected and no investigation.

The NRA got us Harry Reid!!!! shows their leadership and judgement! These progressives say anyting to get elected, the do whatever they want. THis is a gun grab that has been in the works for years, they jsut found the right opportuinty. But, if gun owners do not vote in 2014, unlike 2012 they deserve what they get! THis is about choice, not guns, not 2nd amendment, this is our freedom to chose what we want to do.
