Crystal Mountain’s Gondola Puts Rainier at Eye Level in 12 Minutes

A gondola ride from Crystal Mountain’s base to 6,872 feet delivers a front-row view of Mt. Rainier with minimal effort—and it’s a quick drive from Enumclaw.
ENUMCLAW, WA—For anyone who wants a serious mountain view without a serious hike, Crystal Mountain’s gondola is about as good as the Pacific Northwest gets, and it’s practically in Enumclaw’s backyard.
The ride climbs 2,400 vertical feet to a summit elevation of 6,872 feet in roughly 12 minutes each way. According to @pieces.of.paige on TikTok, the payoff at the top is one of the most impressive views of Mt. Rainier available without a trail. Visitors can wander the summit area, pick up a short hike, or sit down for a meal at Summit House.
Crystal Mountain sits about 35 miles east of Enumclaw on Highway 410—a familiar stretch of road for anyone who’s driven toward Chinook Pass. The gondola operates year-round outside of maintenance windows, which makes it a reliable option whether the surrounding ski runs are open or not.
Not every bucket-list view requires a bucket of effort. This one just requires a clear day and about half an hour of riding.
