Paradise Is Delivering Five Bears a Week Right Now

A visitor who made three trips to Mount Rainier’s Paradise area in a single week reported seeing five different black bears, two of which walked directly onto the trail.
ENUMCLAW, WA—The meadows at Mount Rainier’s Paradise are putting on a show this season, and not just the wildflowers. According to @ericakost on TikTok, three visits to Paradise in one week turned up five different bears, a pace that should get any local hiker’s attention given how close the park sits to Enumclaw.
In the video, @ericakost describes two of the bears walking directly up to the trail, close enough that the group had to step aside to give them room to pass. That’s a good reminder that bear encounters at Paradise aren’t theoretical, and the standard advice applies: give bears a wide berth, never approach, and don’t run.
Paradise sits about two hours from Enumclaw by way of Highway 410 and Stevens Canyon Road, still a realistic day trip whenever the mountain cooperates. @ericakost notes the views, waterfalls, and meadows are the draw, but this week the wildlife is doing most of the talking.
