Pinnacle Peak Earns Its Reputation: 3.1 Miles, No Pass, Great Views

A local hiker breaks down Pinnacle Peak—also known as Mt. Peak—as a rewarding Enumclaw-area trail with basalt columns, a fire lookout, and zero parking fees.

ENUMCLAW, WA—Just a few miles from town, Pinnacle Peak (also known as Mt. Peak) delivers a legitimate workout, standout scenery, and one of the better excuses to leave the kids at home.

1 miles out and back with 1,073 feet of elevation gain—the first mile trending sharply upward before leveling into a more gradual approach to the summit. No Discover Pass required, and there are bathrooms at the trailhead on SE 481st Street.

Dogs are welcome on leash, and the trail accommodates horses as well. Near the top, a historic fire lookout frames views of the surrounding farmland and Cascade foothills, and a stretch of basalt column rock formations gives the upper section a distinctly volcanic character.

The hike is rated manageable for older kids, though the sustained early climb earns an honest ’probably not’ for younger ones. Multiple routes exist, so a navigation app helps—AllTrails is a reasonable choice for staying on track and sidestepping the steeper rock scramble sections if that’s not your afternoon.

The trailhead sits at 26838 SE 481st St, Enumclaw, WA 98022—close enough that you could be back in town for lunch and still feel like you earned it.
