The last tomato and the first fake snow: everything on the plateau between now and Thanksgiving

Enumclaw runs on a calendar nobody prints in one place. The city keeps the council meetings, the Chamber keeps Cole Street, the Expo Center keeps the pig-and-beer weekends, the Danish Sisterhood keeps its own counsel, and the state keeps a mountain pass it shuts on a date of its choosing. Here is everything confirmed between this Thursday and the Sunday after Thanksgiving, with a date, a time and, where anyone would commit to one, a price. The arc, in brief: the tomatoes end on September 24, the fake snow starts on November 27, and in between the town spends a surprising number of evenings in a 460-seat cinema on Wells Street.

This weekend and the week after (September 17 to 24)

Thursday, September 17: the Enumclaw Plateau Farmers Market, 3 to 7 p.m. on First Street beside the library. The Courier-Herald's season notice gives the last market as September 24, so if you wanted a pumpkin from a person rather than a patch, you have two Thursdays.

Friday, September 18: the Battle of the Bridge, Enumclaw at White River, 7:30 p.m. at Arrow Lumber Stadium in Buckley. Both teams arrive 2 and 0; WIAA's formula ranks Enumclaw third in the state at 3A and White River seventh. White River won last year 21 to 14, its first in seventeen years, so the trophy is on the wrong side of the river and Enumclaw would like it back.

Saturday, September 19: Wild Winds West at the Expo Center, 45224 284th Avenue SE. Parking opens at 11 a.m., doors at 1 p.m., and the bill is Nate Smith, ERNEST, Austin Snell, Antwane Tyler, Chase Wright and Saltwater Sky. The festival's site prints no price. Same night, 8 p.m., a Cars tribute called Good Times Roll at the Chalet Theatre, 1721 Wells Street, a cheaper evening.

Monday, September 21: Community Services Committee at 5 p.m., Public Safety at 6. Nobody will sell you a bratwurst; this is where the bratwurst money gets discussed.

Thursday, September 24: the last farmers market of the year, and Salute to Comedy at the Chalet, doors at 6 p.m., show at 7, $20 in advance, free for veterans, active duty and first responders who RSVP ahead and bring identification. The comics are Julia Zack, Anthony Schuman and Jay Fiske.

The last weekend of September, which is overbooked

Friday, September 25: the Lonely Hearts Club plays the Beatles at the Chalet at 7 p.m.; the Hornets host Federal Way at 7; and Maris Farms in Buckley runs Boo's and Bites, its 21 and over paid preview of the Haunted Woods.

Saturday, September 26 is the pile-up. At the Expo Center, BBQ Brews & Brats runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 to 4 Sunday, a beer and barbecue tasting with free family entertainment; tickets are online and unpriced on the page. And at the Danish Hall, 1708 Porter Street, the Sisterhood's Viking Feast: 5 p.m. social, 6 p.m. dinner, $65 a head, whole smoked pig, pickled herring, liverwurst, citronfromage, one drink included and the rest $5, raffle tickets three for $5, entertainment by something called the Thor and Loki Show, and eighty seats, by mail to Pepe Terou, PO Box 1163. Cancel after September 20 and your $65 becomes a donation to the hall's restoration. The hall is 126 years old and arrived by horse. It has earned the pig.

Monday, September 28: City Council, 7 p.m., 1339 Griffin Avenue.

October, first half

Thursday, October 1: the Chalet screens Teton Gravity Research's new ski film, "Actually, It Is Rocket Science," at 7 p.m.

Friday, October 2: Soul Stripper with Lewd and Crued, 8 p.m., Chalet. Saturday, October 3: Chicago Tribute Authority, eleven musicians with a horn section, 8 p.m., $20 online and $25 at the door, all ages, beer and wine with ID.

Sunday, October 4: the Enumclaw Sales Pavilion, 22712 SE 436th Street, holds its catalog horse sale, "Quality Performance Horses, Ponies, Mules!" The regular Saturday auction, poultry at 9 and livestock at 1, carries on regardless.

Thursday, October 8: Hornets at Kentlake, Kent, kickoff listed at 5:50 p.m. Friday, October 9: comedian Gabriel Rutledge at the Chalet, doors 7, show 8, ages 16 and up.

Saturday, October 10: Witches Night Out, the downtown costume crawl. Check-in runs 3 to 5:30 p.m., first prize drawing at 5:45, judging around 9 at the final stop for Best Costume, Best Hat and Best Broom or Staff. Tickets are $30 through NW Magical Events, non-refundable, and everyone in your party must sign the waiver in person.

Monday, October 12: City Council. Thursday, October 15: Hornets at Auburn Mountainview, 7 p.m.

October, second half, and the candy

October 16, 17 and 18 at the Chalet: an 80s and 90s arena tribute Friday at 8, Whiskey River Saturday at 8, Chronicles of the Highwaymen Sunday at 5. Three tributes in three nights is a lot of Cash for one weekend.

Friday, October 23: Kent-Meridian at Enumclaw, 7 p.m. Saturday, October 24: Hell's Belles, the all-female AC/DC act, Chalet, 8 p.m.

Monday, October 26: City Council. Friday, October 30: Todd Beamer at Enumclaw, 7 p.m., the last regular-season home game, and Thomasson's final day of the season.

Saturday, October 31: Trick or Treat on Cole, 4 to 6 p.m., which in past years ran from Monroe to Marshall. Buckley does the same on Main Street from 3 to 5, so a committed child can work both towns and still make Maris Farms' last night. The Chalet closes the month with a band called Almost Human at 8.

November, to the turkey

Saturday, November 7: the Winter Stoke Block Party, Crystal Mountain's pre-season rally on Cole Street, listed by the Chamber without hours; the 2024 edition ran 4 to 8 p.m. Same night at the Chalet, the Infinity Project with Non Jovi, 8 p.m. Monday, November 9: City Council.

Wednesday, November 11: Veterans Day. VFW Post 1949 runs the town's ceremonies, but its posted events list stops in 2025 and nothing for this November was public as of September 16.

Saturday, November 14: the Enumclaw Wine Walk, 4 p.m. start, check-in at the Chamber office, 1421 Cole Street; the Chamber's page still shows 2024 prices, $45 in advance and $55 on the day, ten tastings and a glass; 2026 pricing was not posted as of September 16. Earlier, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Danish Sisterhood's Christmas Bazaar at the Danish Hall. Buy the aebleskiver before the wine.

Saturday, November 21: The Grunge Show at the Chalet, 8 p.m. Monday, November 23: City Council. Thursday, November 26: Thanksgiving, nothing scheduled, as it should be.

Friday, November 27: the City Tree Lighting and the first Frosty Friday, when the Chamber makes it snow on Cole Street. Hours for 2026 are not posted; last year ran caroling and cocoa at 5:30 p.m. and the switch at 6 outside City Hall.

The two dates nobody will give you

Chinook Pass has no closing date because it never does. WSDOT's table shows it shut on October 24 in 2025, October 31 in 2024 and November 10 in 2023, so the gate can drop any time from late October to mid November, and you find out the morning it happens. The October 24, 2025 closure was the earliest for the season in a table that runs back to 1935. Crystal Mountain's projected opening is December 4, per OnTheSnow, which warns that projected dates are not official; the mountain got a dusting in late August and the lifts were not fooled.

What is not happening

Buckley's Little Nashville Wine Walk is off: the Buckley Chamber's page says, in full, "The 2026 event is postponed until next year!" The Expo Center's pickleball page reads "See You Next Season," and its Foothills Flea Market page thanks everyone for the first one and names no second. The Courier-Herald's office on Cole is closed, though the paper is not. The library's Fall Into Books sale, the Historical Society's fall talk, the Country Chicks holiday market and any Veterans Day ceremony were not yet dated as of September 16; the Expo Center's own calendar lists nothing between the bratwurst weekend and the Wine and Chocolate Festival in February. If the pass closes, you will know before we do.
